This traditional 150-year old Bahamian cottage has been lovingly restored by the great-grand daughter of the original owner. Set on the Back Street of Hope Town, just 200 feet from the harbour and the ocean, this New England-style home is close to beaches, shops and restaurants. The downstairs master has a queen-size bed with ensuite. There is a cozy front parlor, galley-style kitchen with an adjacent sitting room that’s perfect for board games, and a spacious front porch. Upstairs is an additional bedroom with twins that can be converted to a king, a full bath, and a cozy dormer-ed bedroom with one twin.
In 1930, John William Harrison Russell, affectionately known as Pa Willie bought the land and house from his grandfather. The house originally sat where the Sotheby’s office is now located. Prior to his marriage, Pa Willie moved the house across the street to its current setting where he added the kitchen and dining room. At his death, his children inherited the home. Renovations have been made but the main structure still stands.
In the 1932 hurricane, the house was blown off the pillars on to the road with minimal damage.
The children have wonderful memories of growing up here with their parents.
We hope you love our home as much as we do!
